About Us

  • We are a non-profit organization with the goal of increasing the literacy rate in Gloucester, Virginia and the surrounding area.
  • We provide free one-on-one tutoring in reading, writing, math and other subjects to adult learners from all walks of life. Some are preparing for their GED test. Others are learning English as a new language, receiving tutoring near the end of a prison sentence, or simply trying to improve their basic academic skills. Whatever the need, the compassionate tutors and volunteers of LVG are here to help adult learners and to advocate for them.
  • The benefits of a higher literacy rate include: improved individual quality of life, improved literacy of the family (especially children), reduced poverty, higher employment rates and job retention, and overall community wellness.
  • We embrace the concept of lifelong learning and believe it's never too late to achieve personal success.
