Our History

LVG has been a presence in the community since 1981. Since its inception, LVG has trained tutors to teach adults who wish to improve basic reading skills.

In the early 1990s a basic skills and GED program was begun at the
Gloucester County Jail. This program continues to be a strong component of our services.

As our county began to see an influx of adults for whom English is not their native language, we began offering help with English as a new language (ESOL). We have seen this program gradually grow and it is very active.

In 2006, LVG expanded its program to offer instruction to adults who wanted to prepare for the General Educational Development (GED) test. We continue to provide these services. We collaborate with Rappahannock Community College by supporting their students who are enrolled in their Career Readiness Program.  We are the official registration site for the GED tests which are given monthly at Gloucester High School.
